Three‐lobe morning glory (Ipomoea triloba L.) is an annual weed, which presents vigorous growth, long cycle, and tolerance to glyphosate. Thus, knowledge of aspects related to germination and behavior in the seed bank of this species are essential for the adoption of appropriate management practices to reduce the population in agricultural fields. Therefore, the objective of this work was to characterize the requirements for three‐lobe morning glory germination, perform field emergence modeling using thermal and hydrothermal time models, and determine the longevity of the seed bank. Eight temperatures and 10 water potentials were tested in the laboratory to determine the base temperature and water potential for seed germination. For the modeling of the emergence, field experiments were conducted between the years 2014 and 2018 considering three sampling times (10/20, 11/10, and 12/01), which coincide with the sowing times of summer annual crops. To evaluate the longevity and persistence of the seed bank, a factorial experiment was conducted in which factor A consisted of three burial depths and factor B consisted of five harvesting times. Base values for three‐lobe morning glory emergence are base, optimum, and maximum temperatures of 12.32, 29.82, and 43.31°C, respectively, and base water potential of −0.80 MPa. Both models are adequate to predict the emergence of three‐lobe morning glory in the three sampling times. The species has a persistent seed bank, in which the greater the depth of seed burial, the greater the longevity of the seed bank, and can remain viable for up to 16 months.

Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is used as the raw material in more than fifty industries and is also the main source of raw materials used in the textile, the oil, the animal feed, and the paper industries. Additionally, it is a crop of great economic importance for its producer countries with the added value and employment opportunities. Cotton is among the crops sensitive to weed competition and its yield decreases with the weeds. For this reason, weed control treatments should be employed effectively to obtain high yields in cotton fields. In the recent years, Ipomoea triloba (IPOTR), which has increased in its importance in the agricultural areas of the Mediterranean Region, prevents the development of the cotton because of its invasive features and causes the harvest difficulties during by hand or machine harvest. The aim of this study is to create an effective control program against IPOTR in cotton. Field experiments were carried out in Ceyhan, Adana, Turkey in 2018 and 2019. For this purpose, impact of the treatments including Pyroxasulfone 85% (PYRS) Trifloxysulfuron sodium 75% (TRFS), Pyrithiobac-sodium 383 g/l (PYBS), Glyphosate isopropylamine salt 480 g/l (GLYI), S-metolachlor 915 g/l + Benoxacor 45 g/l + hand hoe (SMEC), inter-row rotary hoe + intra-row hand hoe (FÇEÇ) were investigated 28 day-after treatment and at the harvest during two years. It has been determined that TRFS and PYBS have an efficacy over 90%, while FÇEÇ, SMEÇ, TRFS and PYBS applications have an efficacy over 60%. Applications against IPOTR have increased the cotton lint and yield. However, crop injury was observed after GLYI application (20%).

In this study, native plant taxa with invasive character that spread in flora of Balıkesir were determined. Their distribution depending on habitat types and their ecological risks were revealed. For this purpose, in addition to the field studies conducted periodically in Balıkesir and its districts, data of floristic observations taken from the same region were evaluated. As a result of the research; 172 genera and 271 taxa belonging to 44 families spreading in flora of Balıkesir were included in the invasive plants with invasive character. Among these, the families containing the most taxa were Asteraceae (45 taxa, 16.6%), Poaceae (38 taxa, 14%) and Fabaceae (33 taxa, 12.2%). The first three genera that contain the most taxa were Trifolium L. (10 taxa, 3.7%), Carex L. (6 taxa, 2.2%) and Juncus L. (6 taxa, 2.2%). In the distribution according to habitat types of taxa, the first three habitats were E1. Dry grasslands (136 taxa, 50.2%), J1. Buildings of cities, towns and villages (31 taxa, 11.4%) and E5.1 Anthropogenic herb stands (30 taxa, 11.1%).
