Background Previous work documented the beneficial association between internet use and improved cognition, functional capacity, and less cognitive decline among people in late adulthood. This work focused on potential mechanisms of such an association: knowledge on Alzheimer disease (AD) and preventive behaviors related to AD. Objective The aim of this study was to examine prospective associations of internet use and perceived computer skills with knowledge on AD and preventive behaviors related to AD. Methods The sample included 1232 older adults (mean age 71.12 [SD 9.07]) drawn from the Israeli branch of the Survey of Health, Aging, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE-Israel). The sample is representative of Israeli households of adults aged 50 or older and their spouses. Data analyzed were collected in person during 2015 (Wave 6), and in a drop-off questionnaire following the in-person 2017 data collection (Wave 7). Results Although both internet use and perceived computer skills were prospectively associated with knowledge and behaviors related to AD in bivariate analyses, after controlling for sociodemographics, only internet use was associated with more such knowledge (β=.13, P<.001) and behaviors (β=.22, P<.001). Conclusions Internet use emerged as a prospective predictor of protective factors against AD. Policymakers should advance digital engagement so as to enhance knowledge on AD and preventive behaviors among older adults.

This article analyzes modern trends of educational processes stipulated by features of modern society development. Modifications in surrounding reality dictate necessity of updating the learning process towards active transition to distance education. Increased demand of students for electronic educational resources stipulated necessity to analyze representation of electronic platforms and identification of their features. This work is aimed at analysis of the electronic educational resources being most popular among students, and identification of features of their use in distance education. The study was performed using analysis of scientific publications devoted to the research subject, survey and results of its analysis, analysis of electronic educational resources aiming at identification of their features for distance education. This work is comprised of two stages. At the first stage, the students of two learning levels were surveyed (universal bachelor degree course and high school), which allowed to reveal common requirements for the two levels of preparation for electronic educational resources and features of their selection by respondents. At the second stage, the most demanded for distance learning electronic educational platforms and their resources were analyzed to assist teacher to develop algorithm of combination of various electronic resources in the frames of content of certain course. A teacher should be aware of the content of the most popular educational platforms of opensource information educational environment, determine reasonability of access to this or that electronic resource and promote students to active participation in distance form.

Existing scholarship suggests that schools do the work of social stratification by functioning as “sorting machines,” or institutions that determine which populations of students are provided educational resources needed to help them get ahead. We build on this theory of social reproduction by extending it to better understand how digital technology use is implicated in this process of unequal resource allocation in schools. We contend that educational resources, like digital technologies, are also sorted by schools. Drawing on scholarship from both education research and science and technology studies, we show how educational institutions have long played a role in constructing the value of technologies to different ends, by constructing hierarchies of technological activity, like “vocational” and “academic” computer use, even when strikingly similar. We then apply this lens to three areas of inquiry in education research: the use of digital technologies for instruction, school use of student data, and college admissions. Each illustrates how education scholars can view technologies as part of school sorting processes and with implications for inequality within and beyond the classroom.
