The purpose of this investigation is wear characterization of solid glass microspheres (SGM) and boron carbide (BC)-reinforced epoxy composites, under dry sliding conditions using a pin-on-disk wear test machine. Influence of parameters like sliding distance, sliding velocity, applied load and addition of fillers, on the wear rate were examined. Taguchi technique was used for the plan of experiments to conduct wear tests. To evaluate the effect of the individual parameters on the rate of wear performance of composites, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and an orthogonal array were employed. Linear regression analysis was employed for all the composites to establish an empirical relation between the various process parameters and wear. The results indicate reduction in wear of polymer on addition of particulates with the lowest wear rates observed in composites with addition of boron carbide as filler. Different fracture mechanisms were revealed by Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of worn-out composite surfaces.

In this study, it is intended to determine the most suitable process parameters for surface roughness and cutting energy of the 7075 series aluminum material in dry environment conditions by using Taguchi method in CNC milling. The process parameters were determined as, cutting speed, feed rate and cutting depth and the effects of these parameters on surface roughness, current flow through the grid and the energy consumed were examined. As a result, optimum process parameters were determined and the results were analyzed by graphs. It was observed that the most effective parameter on the surface roughness was the feed rate, while the most effective parameter on the current drawn from the network was the cutting depth. As a result of the experiments, the best surface roughness value was found to be 0.39 µm and the lowest current value was 0.9 A. In addition, considering the determined current amount and processing time, the lowest energy amount consumed was calculated as 7089.28 J.

Öz Ramor 500 zırh çeliği; 2-30 mm kalınlıklara sahip, 505-590 HV sertliklerde bulunan yüksek mukavemetli bir balistik koruma çeliği olarak sınıflandırılır. Aşınma, kayma yüzeyleri arasındaki mekanik etkinin etkisiyle yüzeyler üzerinde malzemenin deformasyonuna ve kaybına neden olan bir etkileşim işlemidir. Bu çalışmada, konstrüksiyon imalat sanayisinde kullanılan Ramor 500 çeliğinin ısıl işlem sonrası mikroyapı, mikrosertlik ve abrasiv aşınma direncine etkisinin taguchi metoduyla değerlendirilmesi ve etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla Ramor 500 çeliği 900 o C sıcaklıkta tavlanmış ve 3 faklı ortamda soğutulmuştur. İnceleme sonucunda mikroyapı ve mikrosertlik incelenmiştir. Ayrıca ısıl işlemsiz numunelerle kıyaslamak maksadıyla abrasiv aşınma testine tabi tutulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler Taguchi metoduyla değerlendirilip Varyans analizleriyle seviye ve parametrelerin aşınmaya olan etkileri incelenmiştir. Yapılan ısıl işlemler sonrasında sertlik değerlerinde esas metalin altında kalınmıştır. Seçilen bütün parametrelerin aşınmaya etkisi olmuştur. Kütle kaybının kontrol faktörleri üzerindeki etkisi countour plot renk dağılımı metoduyla gözlemlenmiştir.
