Tackling endothelium remodeling in cardiovascular disease

Abstract: Endothelial dysfunction is considered an early marker of atherosclerosis. Herein, we address the molecular mechanisms affecting endothelium remodeling in disease. Vascular calcification is highly prevalent in patients with ischemic cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disorder, and renal failure, being a common feature in aging, diabetes, dyslipidemia, abnormal valve biomechanics, end‐stage renal disease and atherosclerosis, a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Oxidative stress promotes calcification o… Show more

“…The next two pathways in Figure 5B (valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis and valine, leucine and isoleucine degradation) were involved in the metabolism of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA). Zuzana et al considered that dysmetabolism of BCAA may promote VC by influencing endothelial cell remodeling ( 44 ), although there is lack of evidence for this possibility.…”

“…Vascular calcification is a marker of atherosclerosis 21 . In calcified atherosclerotic lesions, VSMCs express a variety of osteogenic differentiation markers 22 , similar to the osteogenic mineralization process 23 . VC is caused by the imbalance of vascular wall mineralization promoters 24 and inhibitors and is a serious health problem with serious clinical consequences 25 .…”

“…Regular physical activity improves different aspects: vascular endothelium function, glucose tolerance, lipid profile, exercise capacity, stroke volume, and cardiac output. Moreover, regular physical activity normalizes blood pressure, heart rate, regulates peripheral vascular resistance and blood flow distribution [ 7 , 8 ].…”
