Tacite: Contribution Of Fluid Composition Tracking On Transient Multiphase Flow Simulation

Abstract: The composition tracking approach allows an improved estimation of the local fluid properties. It enables computation of the local thermodynamic equilibrium. An optimized two component representation of the fluid is shown to be sufficient in a number of applications. This paper illustrates possible applications of the composition tracking approach as applied to production allocation problems. In this case more than two components are used to describe the two-phase flow mixture. … Show more

“…As the fluid flows in pipe, heat is constantly transferred to the surroundings and the temperatures of the fluid and enthalpy value are changed. The temperature drop calculation for single flow usually calculated by the Sukhoi model that only takes heat transfer with the surroundings and friction work into account [3]. For oil-gas flow differs from that for single-phase liquid or gas in that not only the oil-gas mixture transfers heat to the surroundings through wall but the quality and heat exchanges between gas and liquid should also be considered.…”

“…This a priori knowledge of the flow can be employed to reduce the number of transport equations to be solved, and the result is called the drift-flux model. A drift-flux model similar to the one described in the following, was also studied by Henriot et al (1997).…”

“…Such phenomenon can be caused either by imposed operating condition variations or by the nonuniform profile of the pipeline. The TACITE Code, developed by IFP, Total 1 and Elf 1 is a compositional transient multiphase flow simulation tool [1,2] used for the design and control of multiphase production pipelines and wells to avoid such phenomena. In this paper, we describe the set of conservative equations used and the compositional approach implemented in this code.…”
