Abstract:This article reports the results of a systematic review of research on educational leadership and management (EDLM) in Muslim societies. Quantitative methods were employed to examine 362 articles published in eight core international EDLM journals. This review examined general patterns of knowledge production, as well as research topics, conceptual models, and methods employed by scholars in Muslim societies. The results show that 44% of the articles had been published in the past 4 years, and 67% in the past … Show more
“…Hallinger and Hammad (2019) stated that they did not find any published review of research in the corpus of Arab-related EDLM publications. In her review of research on EDLM in Muslim societies of which Arabs represent a considerable percentage, Ahmed (2020) reported that reviews of research constituted only 3% of the 362 studies in her sample. Atari and Outum (2019) considered the absence of this line of inquiry as indicator of a weak critical spirit among Arab scholars.…”
Following in the tradition of systematic reviews of research, this paper reports the findings of an overview of Arab scholarship in educational administration, management and leadership. We first articulated a framework for analysis anchored to a proposed ‘scholarship maturity’ theoretical model then applied it to analyze 20 reviews of Arab scholarship in educational administration, management and leadership. The findings suggest that reviewing Arab scholarship in educational administration, management and leadership is an emerging segment of research that is growing steadily in line with the burgeoning volume of Arab research. Taken together, the findings give the impression that this line of inquiry is promising and has the potentials and capacity to develop. However, it is still lacking maturity and impact, which descriptions apply to the Arab scholarship in educational administration, management and leadership writ large. The paper concludes with the limitations, discussion and recommendations.

“…Leadership integrity is meant to guide followers towards achieving a common goal and creating a system where there is happiness and contentment for all. It must be governed by honesty and integrity with an obligation to protect its followers (Ahmed, 2020;Gurmu, 2020;Thien et al, 2021).…”

“…The term integrity has many different definitions, including those that refer to the qualities of ethical fairness and honesty. Integrity comes from the Latin word 'integer' which means honesty (Ahmed, 2020;Akbar & Picard, 2020;Ezzani & Brooks, 2019). According to Helgesson and Bülow (2021), Reedy et al (2021) and Palanski & Yammarino (2007), integrity means loyalty that is committed to a strict or honest code of ethics with strong moral principles.…”
One aspect that must be owned by a leader is integrity. Considering that currently, the Islamic-based education system is very popular in Indonesia, the purpose of this study is to identify the Tahfidzul Qur'an Education System (T-QES) in creating leaders with integrity. The quasi-qualitative research was conducted in two Islamic boarding schools in Bandung. The participants used is 20 participants consisting of 2 principals, 6 deputy principals, 7 mudaris (teachers), 1 expert and 4 santri (students in Islamic boarding schools) during the 2019–2021 school year. The instrument used is an open interview instrument. Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out with percentages and mapped with the help of the NVivo 12 software. The results show that the T-QES plays an important role in creating leaders with integrity. Thus, the T-QES can be one of the recommendations that can be used in an education system.

“…According to Donmoyer (2020, p. 344), none of these issues have been solved and so they continue to create challenges well into the 21st century. The infrequent reviews of the knowledge of the field on national and international scales (Ahmed, 2020;Archbald, 2008;Berkovich & Eyal, 2017;Castillo & Hallinger, 2018;Hallinger & Chen, 2015;Hammad, Samier & Mohammed, 2020;Hallinger & Kovacevic, 2021;Heck & Hallinger, 2005;Gümüş, Bellibaş, Esen & Gümüş, 2018;Gümüş, Bellibas, Gümüş & Hallinger, 2020) were done. Philosophical and epistemological studies (Donmoyer, 2020;Evers & Lakomski, 2012;Fitz, 1999;Haller, 1979;Oplatka, 2008;Oplatka, 2016) have also tried to suggest solutions to the field problems regarding the produced knowledge.…”
This study examines the contribution of the knowledge produced in educational administration doctoral theses to the functions of science, concept and model development, theory formation, scale development/adaptation and application. Content analysis, one of the qualitative methods, was used in conducting the research, which analyzed 122 doctoral theses dated between 2017 and 2020. These compositions were produced at 27 universities that ranked in the top 500 globally in CWUR (Center for World University Ranking) 2020. The results showed that the knowledge produced in the theses was mostly descriptive. However, there were a few experimental theses that reached the control level and contributed to the application with a concept, model, theory creation and scale development/adaptation. The findings offer implications that can guide future research in the field of educational administration.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
