“…Studies of high-resolution video endoscopy, narrow-band imaging, autofluorescence, and chromoendoscopy are ongoing and have demonstrated mixed results in improving the identification of dysplasia compared with 4-quadrant biopsies. 9 Therefore, the current accepted standard of care is to perform 4-quadrant biopsies at 2-cm intervals in patients without suspected high-grade dysplasia (HGD) and at 1-cm intervals in patients with suspected HGD in addition to obtaining biopsy specimens of any endoscopically apparent lesions. 10 However, new imaging methods, such as confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE), are being explored for in vivo imaging, with cellular resolution, which may initially help to direct biopsies and eventually lead to true in vivo diagnosis of dysplasia and cancer.…”
