Systematic review of cost‐of‐illness studies in hand eczema

Abstract: SummaryThe individual burden of disease in hand eczema patients is considerable. However, little is known about the socio-economic impact of this disease. The aims of this review were to evaluate the literature on cost-of-illness in hand eczema, and to compose a checklist for future use. “…Despite treatment, up to 65% of patients are burdened with intermittent HE after 5 years (Veien et al, ), and 15% of patients were reportedly very satisfied with their treatment while 26% were somewhat or very dissatisfied (Dibenedetti, Baranowski, Zelt, Reynolds, & Sherrill, ). Additionally, the mean annual total cost per HE patient ranges from €1,712 to €9,792 ($1980–$11,327; Politiek, Oosterhaven, Vermeulen, & Schuttelaar, ). It is clear that safer and more effective therapeutics are needed for CHE.…”
