As compared with a practice of nonprotective mechanical ventilation, the use of a lung-protective ventilation strategy in intermediate-risk and high-risk patients undergoing major abdominal surgery was associated with improved clinical outcomes and reduced health care utilization. Purpose: The intestinal microbiota is potentially involved in the development of colorectal carcinoma via various mechanisms. Escherichia coli are commensal bacteria of the human gut microbiota, but some pathogenic strains have acquired the ability to induce chronic inflammation and/or produce toxins, such as cyclomodulin, which could participate in the carcinogenesis process. Here, we analyzed the E. coli population associated with mucosa of patients with colon cancer in relation to clinicopathologic characteristics. We assessed carcinogenic properties of a colon cancer-associated E. coli strain in multiple intestinal neoplasia (Min) mice.Experimental design: Mucosa-associated or internalized E. coli were quantified and characterized from tumors and mucosa of patients with colon cancer and the healthy mucosa of diverticulosis controls. Min mice were inoculated with a colon cancer-associated E. coli strain (11G5). The number of colonic polyps was evaluated at 7 weeks after infection.Results: An increased level of mucosa-associated and internalized E. coli was observed in the tumors compared with normal tissue. A relationship between poor prognostic factors for colon cancer (tumornode-metastasis stage) and colonization of mucosa by E. coli was observed. Pathogenic cyclomodulinpositive E. coli strains were more prevalent on mucosa of patients with stages III/IV than those with stage I colon cancer. Proliferative index and E. coli colonization level of the mucosa distant from the tumor significantly correlated. Min mice infected with the E. coli strain 11G5 displayed a marked increase in the number of visible colonic polyps compared with controls.Conclusion: These findings support that pathogenic E. coli could be a cofactor in pathogenesis of colorectal cancer. Background Medical-related professions are at high suicide risk. However, data are contradictory and comparisons were not made between gender, occupation and specialties, epochs of times. Thus, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on suicide risk among healthcare workers. Method The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Science Direct and Embase databases were searched without language restriction on April 2019, with the following keywords: suicide* AND (« health care worker* » OR physician* OR nurse*). When possible, we stratified results by gender, countries, time, and specialties. Estimates were pooled using random-effect metaanalysis. Differences by study-level characteristics were estimated using stratified metaanalysis and meta-regression. Suicides, suicidal attempts, and suicidal ideation were retrieved from national or local specific registers or case records. In addition, suicide attempts and suicidal ideation were also retrieved from questionnaires (paper or internet).

HIIT is a time-efficient strategy to decrease fat-mass deposits, including those of abdominal and visceral fat mass. There was some evidence of the greater effectiveness of HIIT running versus cycling, but owing to the wide variety of protocols used and the lack of full details about cycling training, further comparisons need to be made. Large, multicenter, prospective studies are required to establish the best HIIT protocols for reducing fat mass according to subject characteristics.

Alterations in the composition of commensal bacterial populations, a phenomenon known as dysbiosis, are linked to multiple gastrointestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, or to infections by diverse enteric pathogens. Blastocystis is one of the most common single-celled eukaryotes detected in human faecal samples. However, the clinical significance of this widespread colonization remains unclear, and its pathogenic potential is controversial. To address the issue of Blastocystis pathogenicity, we investigated the impact of colonization by this protist on the composition of the human gut microbiota. For that purpose, we conducted a cross-sectional study including 48 Blastocystis-colonized patients and 48 Blastocystis-free subjects and performed an Ion Torrent 16S rDNA gene sequencing to decipher the Blastocystis-associated gut microbiota. Here, we report a higher bacterial diversity in faecal microbiota of Blastocystis colonized patients, a higher abundance of Clostridia as well as a lower abundance of Enterobacteriaceae. Our results contribute to suggesting that Blastocystis colonization is usually associated with a healthy gut microbiota, rather than with gut dysbiosis generally observed in metabolic or infectious inflammatory diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract.
