System dynamics models as decision-making tools in agritourism

Abstract: Agritourism as a type of niche tourism is a complex and softly defined phaenomenon. The demands for fast and integrated decision regarding agritourism and its interconnections with environment, economy (investments, traffic) and social factors (tourists) is urgent. Many different methodologies and methods master softly structured questions and dilemmas with global and local properties. Here we present methods of systems thinking and system dynamics, which were first brought into force in the educational and tr… Show more

“…Several authors (Jere Jakulin, 2016;Štumpf & Vojtko, 2016;Vojtko & Volfová, 2015) regard residents as only one of the stakeholders or part of the destination environment in the system dynamic models. None of the studies are aimed at managing residents' attitude toward tourism development and the dynamics of irritation of the local community.…”

“…Several research studies have been published in the field of travel and tourism, using systems approach and system dynamics as the main theoretical approach (Borštnar et al, 2011;Janeček, 2016;Jere Jakulin, 2016Lazanski & Kljajic, 2006;Mai & Smith, 2018;Patterson et al, 2004;Ropret et al, 2014;Schianetz et al, 2007;Sedarati et al, 2018;Štumpf & Vojtko, 2016;Tan, 2017;Tegegne et al, 2018;Vojtko & Volfová, 2015). Moreover, Romero-García et al (2019) present an extensive review of the urban tourism literature that uses the systems approach.…”

“…Managing tourism destinations is uncertain, and destination managers have to make decisions in a complex environment, including a number of stakeholders with different management objectives and interests (Mai & Smith, 2018). System dynamics in travel and tourism research was used by a number of researchers (Borštnar et al, 2011;Jere Jakulin, 2016, 2017Jere Lazanski and Kljajic, 2006;Mai and Smith, 2018;Patterson et al, 2004;Ropret et al, 2014;Sedarati et al, 2018;Štumpf and Vojtko, 2016;Tan, 2017;Tegegne et al, 2018;Vojtko and Volfová, 2015). Our study identifies the complexity of the destination management system and highlights the role of enterprises, supported by a number of causal loops in the system.…”

“…System dynamics in travel and tourism research is used by other researchers as well (Borštnar et al, 2011;Jere Jakulin, 2016, 2017Lazanski & Kljajic, 2006;Mai & Smith, 2018;Patterson et al, 2004;Ropret et al, 2014;Sedarati et al, 2019;Štumpf & Vojtko, 2016;Tegegne et al, 2018;Vojtko & Volfová, 2015). The tourism destination system involves a great number of stakeholders.…”

“…In their article, Lazanski & Kljajić (2006) described important contributions in the development of models of system dynamics that are bound with the field of tourism. Jakulin (2016) discusses the usage of system dynamics in the area of tourism.…”
