System Analysis and Synthesis of Total Hip Joint Endoprosthesis

Abstract: This paper presents new design of total hip endoprosthesis, elements of whose were developed from the standpoint of system analysis and synthesis of biomechanical objects and devices. The main objective of this work is to increase the functional reliability of the endoprosthesis. The system approach was used in all stages of its development, including formulation of the problem and designing of manufacturing techniques.

“…In this regard, various attempts allowing enhancing the durability of total hip replacements (THR) are undertaken. For example, new designs are created on the basis of a systematic approach, taking into account the mutual impact of many factors, both structural and operational [2]. To test the engineering solutions and evaluate durability of the existing and newly created THR, the specialized devices to perform a wide range of tests for wear are used, both for the tests regulated by standards and considering the nature of the non-standard behavior of the patient [3].…”

“…The most effective medical procedure in such cases is synovial joints arthroplasty, which consists in replacing it with an artificial analogue-an endoprosthesis. Despite the fact that modern endoprostheses are made from special biomaterials similar in properties to biological tissues [100], and their designs create high-tech products [101,102], they do not fully ensure the functionality of natural joints. First of all, they do not provide the lubrication conditions inherent in natural synovial joints and the natural coefficient of friction, which leads to their wear and, as a result, to metalosis, and ultimately to the need for reprosthetics.…”

“…One way of its solution is to use screws with special design elements, which required directly for their removal without destruction of bone structures [16]. We have used such approach in the system synthesis of total hip endoprosthesis [17], as well as in the synthesis of other implanted structures, which can lose strength in the process of work.…”
