“…In analytical chemistry, geopolymers are a potential stationary phase for liquid chromatography due to their different selectivity compared with existing phases and stability at different pH conditions. [139][140][141] Finally, there are also several proposed applications utilizing the electrical properties of geopolymers or AAMs: electrode materials for structural supercapacitors 142 and microbial fuel cells, 143 solid-state battery electrolytes, 144 and dielectric materials for antennas. 145 In many of the mentioned technical applications, beyond construction materials for which parts of simple shapes are required, components of intricate or complex shapes are usually necessary.…”

“…For example, the sulfonate/tertiary amine and sulfonate/pyridinium phases (Table 2) were developed as the mixed‐mode phases (Bo et al, 2017; Takafuji, Shahruzzaman, Sarahara, & Ihara, 2018) but were evaluated only under HILIC conditions. Armstrong and coworkers synthesized an aluminosilicate‐based geopolymer material as the stationary phase for HILIC (Thakur et al, 2019). The aluminosilicate material is capable of cation‐exchange process and exhibits similar ion‐exchange selectivity to silica and diol phases.…”

“…The Armstrong research group investigated geopolymers as a new class of high pH stable chromatographic supports, which were previously introduced in the field of chromatography by Alzeer et al These amorphous polycondensed aluminosilicate ceramic solids have a high mechanical strength, chemical stability in basic conditions, and are water insoluble, making them a unique solid support material that can be turned into porous spherical particles with high surface area amenable for chromatographic purposes . Their chromatographic selectivity shows a strong hydrophilic and electrostatic character, and in the HILIC mode a different selectivity than that in silica columns is found, with excellent peak shapes.…”
