Synthesis, Structures, and Photoluminescent Properties of Three Coordination Polymers based on an Asymmetric Semi‐rigid V‐shaped Tricarboxylate Ligand

Abstract: Three coordination polymers, [Zn(HL)(phen)(H2O)]n (1), [Zn1.5(L)(4, 4′‐bpy)1.5]n·4nH2O (2), and [Zn2(HL)2(bib)2]n·2nH2O (3), were assembled from the asymmetric semi‐rigid V‐shaped tricarboxylate ligand 4‐(2‐carboxy‐phenoxy)‐isophthalic acid (H3L) with 1, 10‐phenanthroline (phen), 4, 4′‐bipyridine(4, 4′‐bpy) and 1, 4‐bis (imidazol‐1‐yl) benzene (bib) as auxiliary ligands. Complex 1 features a one‐dimensional (1D) double‐looped chain, which is further extended into a 2D supramolecular layer via two kinds of hydr… Show more

“…On the other hand, we know that combining transition metal ions with suitable bridging ligands is a general synthetic approach to functional CPs, and the mixed‐ligands strategy, incorporating the multicarboxylate and N‐donor ligands, is also beneficial to form multifunctional CPs. Compared with other N‐donor ligands, 4,4′‐bipyridine is often employed as the second ligand to construct new transition metal CPs containing the multicarboxylate ligands, as reported for Zn‐, Co‐, and Cu‐based CPs …”

“…As we know, polycarboxylates are widely employed to construct MOFs with desired structures and functional properties. Several well-known MOFs were prepared by rigid polycarboxylates such as terephthalate (MOF-5) and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate (HKUST-1, MIL-100). While, as an asymmetric semirigid V-shaped tricarboxylate ligand, 4-(2-carboxyphenoxy)-isophthalic acid (H 3 L) has been not fully capitalized to build MOFs, , it is noted that one of its MOFs, [Zn 3 L 2 (4,4′-bpy) 2 ·H 2 O] (4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), exhibits a unique luminescent response to methanol . With this background in mind, we utilized H 3 L as a ligand successfully and prepared a three-dimensional (3-D) porous Cu(II) MOF [Cu 3 L 2 (H 2 O) 2.75 ]·0.75H 2 O·1.75DMA ( 1 ), with a sqc topology, which exhibits good humidity sensing properties coated on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM).…”
