“…Therefore, in comparison to cyclic hexanuclear structure 3 , coordination compound 4 shows distinct 1D zigzag chain structure, implying chloride anions have significant effect on the structures of the coordination compounds. In addition, our previous investigations showed that when free ligand L3 was used to react with CuCl 2 · 2H 2 O instead of Cu(NO 3 ) 2 · 3H 2 O, 1D zigzag chain [Cu(L3)(Cl)](Cl) · 2H 2 O was obtained, in which chloride anions not only take part in the coordination with Cu II atoms, but also play important roles as couteranions to balance the electronic neutrality of the crystals . The results further proves that the existence of different anions have great influence on the assembly of coordination compounds.…”

“…Noticeably, coordination compound 2 and our lately reported [Cu(L3)(Cl)](Cl) · 2H 2 O could be synthesized with the same metal salts CuCl 2 · 2H 2 O except different ligands L3 and L4 .
