Synthesis, Structure, and Photoluminescence Properties of an Organically‐Templated Uranyl Selenite

Abstract: Abstract.The organically-templated uranyl selenite, (H 2 en)[(UO 2 )(SeO 3 )(HSeO 3 )](NO 3 )·0.5H 2 O (1) (en = 1,2-ethylenediamine) was synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, TG, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbca, with a = 13.170 (3)

“…Here, the temperature and amine molecules or ionic liquids [58] acted as a reduction agent for H 2 SeO 4 , since it is known that the selenic acid is easily reduced to H 2 Se 4+ O 3 and oxygen upon heating above 160 • C [61]. The other two organically templated uranyl selenites (33 [48] and 36 [50]) were obtained during evaporation at room temperature from the aqueous solution of UO 2 (NO 3 ) 2 ·6H 2 O, SeO 2 , and respective amine. Since SeO 2 transforms to weak selenous acid in water, the low dissociation ability of the latter [62] and the presence of [NO 3 ] − groups in the structures of both compounds explains the long crystallization process of 1 to 2 months.…”
