A new conducting film derived from the complex [Fe (diaphen) À reduction in an ethanol/water solution. Electrocatalysis is centered at the p ring of phenanthroline. Rotating disk electrode studies showed a 0.117 V/dec Tafel slope, suggesting an EC process where the electrochemical process is the determining step. The chemical step was studied by UV-vis spectroelectrochemistry. Amperometric behavior showed a linear range between 47.5 mM to 417 mM and the LOD was 19.5 mM.

A novel ruthenium(II) complex, [RuC1 2 (DMSO) 2 (PhenTPy)] has been synthesized by the condensation of RuCl 2 (DMSO) 4 with (1-(1,10-phenanthrolinyl)-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1H-pyrrole) [PhenTPy] in CHCl 3 solution. The [RuC1 2 (DMSO) 2 (PhenTPy)] complex modified electrode was fabricated through the electropolymerization of the monomer in a 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP)/CH 2 Cl 2 solution, to take advantage of the electronic communication between metal ion center by the conjugated backbone. The UV-visible spectroscopy (UV), mass spectrometry (MS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were employed to characterize the [RuC1 2 (DMSO) 2 (PhenTPy)] complex and its polymer (poly-Ru(II)Phen complex). The poly-Ru(II)Phen complex modified electrode exhibited an electrocatalytic activity to the oxidation of acetaminophen and the catalytic property was used for the analysis of acetaminophen at the concentration range between 0.09 and 0.01 mM in a phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.0).

Electropolymerization represents a suitable and well-established approach for the assembly of polymer structures, in particular with regard to the formation of thin, insoluble films. Utilization of monomers that are functionalized with metal complex units allows the combination of structural and functional benefits of polymers and metal moieties. Since a broad range of both electropolymerizable monomers and metal complexes are available, various structures and, thus, applications are possible. Recent developments in the field of synthesis and potential applications of metal-functionalized polymers obtained via electropolymerization are presented, highlighting the significant advances in this field of research.
