Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and catalytic oxidation properties of ONO/ONS donor Schiff base ruthenium(III) complexes containing PPh3/AsPh3

Abstract: Six different ruthenium(III) complexes of Schiff bases derived from 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and o-aminophenol/o-aminothiophenol have been synthesized. The compounds with the general formula [RuX(EPh 3 ) 2 (L)] (X = Cl or Br; E = P or As; L = bifunctional tridentate ONO/ONS donor Schiff base ligand) were characterized by infrared, electronic, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Spectroscopic investigation reveals coordination of Schiff base ligand through ONO/ONS donor atoms … Show more

“…Although there are a wide variety of signals and stimuli that can trigger apoptosis, chemotherapy still offers the most effective approach to treat cancer by inducing apoptosis in cells with fewer side effects and higher efficiency. In the current work, we synthesized two quinazolinone Schiff bases and characterized them by IR spectra 34 , 1 H and 13 C NMR spectra 35 , and crystallographic study 36 37 . Subsequently, the anti-cancer potential and the underlying mechanisms of compounds A and B were investigated in MCF-7, a human breast cancer cell-line.…”

“…Further the spectra of all the Schiff bases showed a weak band in the 3020-3069 cm −1 region due to -N=CH-/ -N=C(CH 3 )-groups of NA, SA, VA and AA [14]. Theoretically all the fundamental vibrations were active in IR.…”

“…In the present work, we have synthesized certain salen based Schiff base compounds, 2-(2-hydroxyphenylimino) phenolic derivatives viz. salcylaldehyde (SA), o-hydroxyacetophenone (AA), o-vanillin (VA) and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde (NA), with o-aminophenol [11] [12] [13] [14] and characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, 13 C{ 1 H}-NMR techniques, Cyclic Voltammetry studies. Moreover, theoretical studies were carried out on the molecular structure using density functional methods (B3LYP) invoking 6-311G(d,p) basis set.…”

“…Also catalytic activities of Schiff base aqua complexes of copper(II) towards hydrolysis of amino acid and esters were reported [18]. Priyarega et al [19] were studied the catalytic oxidation property of ruthenium(III) complexes were also investigated for oxidation of benzyl alcohol, 1-phenylethanol and cyclohexanol by using H2O2, O2, air, or t-BuOOH as oxidant. All these synthesized complexes were found to catalyze the oxidation of alcohol to carbonyl compound [20,21].…”
