Synthesis of polymeric phthalocyanine sulfonate photosensitizer and its photodegradation on rhodamine B in aqueous medium

Abstract: Novel phthalocyanine sulfonate (H 2 PPcS x ) was synthesized from the sulfonation of a steric polymeric phthalocyanine and investigated as a photocatalyst in a homogenous system. The molecular weight of H 2 PPcS x was characterized as 9213-11692 by MALDI-TOF MS, classified as an oligomer with a 14-18 degree of polymerization. The electronic spectrum indicated a less aggregative tendency of H 2 PPCS x than the usual monomeric phthalocyanine photocatalyst. Efficient photodegradation of butyl Rhodamine B (bu Rh B… Show more

“…Poly( N ‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) is a well‐known thermoresponsive polymer, which exhibits a coil–globule transition in aqueous solutions at a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of 32°C . A great deal of attention has been focused on the thermoresponsive properties of various functional polymers consisting of PNIPAM for their extensive applications, such as drug‐delivery systems and photocatalytic processes .…”
