The aim of this paper is to provide an overview on the different approaches that can be employed to drive a photo-Fenton process under mild conditions, using both heterogeneous and homogeneous iron sources. For this purpose, sections are devoted to the following strategies: a) addition of iron at low concentrations; b) using the matrix of the effluent in order to avoid deactivation of iron; c) addition of chemical auxiliaries to form photoactive complexes with iron, such as carboxylates, chelating agents and humic-like macromolecules; d) strategies leading to the application of heterogeneous photo-Fenton process, by using iron-based solid particles or by hosting iron on different supports and; e) using heterogeneous iron sources as a reservoir for constant dosing of homogeneous iron photocatalyst. In particular, the review will focus on the elimination of emerging pollutants (e.g. drugs, personal care products or pesticides at low concentrations) which are the effluents where applying neutral photo-Fenton seems especially meaningful, although relevant works with other families of pollutants are also considered.

This paper aims to present the mechanism study of methylene blue (MB) discoloration using spent Li-ion battery cathode tape and hydrogen peroxide. The recycled cathode used in this work is composed of 72% of LiCoO 2 , 18% of carbon, and 10% of Al. The value found for surface area is 8.9 m 2 /g and the ZCP value occurs in pH = 2.95. Different from what is proposed in the literature, the most likely mechanism of methylene blue discoloration is the oxidation/delitiation of LiCoO 2 and the reduction of H 2 O 2 forming OH• . Thus, in this paper, an important and promising alternative for discoloration of textile industry dyes using spent Li-ion battery cathode is presented.

Most hydrogels are prepared with using synthetic polymers that are nonecofriendly materials. Also, hydrogel nanocomposites are mostly prepared in the multi-step processing through costly techniques. Here, starch as a natural, biodegradable, hydrophilic, and inexpensive material was used for fabrication of a copper ferrite starch nanocomposites hydrogel. This was synthesized using alkali starch solution along with copper and iron salts through coprecipitation method at low-temperature led to the one-step gelatinization and retrogradation. The various characteristics of the nanocomposites hydrogel were examined including morphology and chemical structure besides magnetic, antimicrobial, and swelling behaviors. Further, the remaining ashes were considered as a simple method to estimate organic matter and inorganic nanoparticles content of hydrogel nanocomposite. The results indicated successful fabrication of a green hydrogel with magnetic and antibacterial features through a very simple method. The obtained ecofriendly hydrogel can be used in various applications such as controlled drug delivery, cancer hyperthermia, waste-water treatment, and many others.
