Synthesis of highly porous poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-b-polysulfone-b-poly(tert-butyl acrylate) asymmetric membranes

Abstract: For the first time, self-assembly and non-solvent induced phase separation was applied to polysulfone-based linear block copolymers, reaching mechanical stability much higher than other block copolymer membranes used in this method, which were mainly based on polystyrene blocks.

“…In targeting the formation of high molecular weight polymer in the VFD, this region should be minimal. 33 Varying VFD operational parameters Experiments T 1 to T 6 in Table S1 ‡ were carried out to establish the effect of varying u, from 3000 to 8000 rpm. Average molecular weight (M w ), T g , and decomposition temperature, as well as yield were determined for all experiments.…”

“…Membranes prepared by combining block copolymer self‐assembly and phase inversion have been now explored and optimized for a decade . In addition to high porosity and narrow pore size distribution, the membranes can have other interesting properties: various stimuli‐responsive behaviors, form complex with different metals for catalysis or antifouling activity The chemical functionality of the membranes can be tailored by incorporating functional groups useful for different separations. A number of diblock copolymers have been used for asymmetric membrane fabrication by phase inversion.…”
