Synthesis of CuAl2(acac)4(OiPr)4, its hydrolysis and formation of bulk CuAl2O4 from the hydrolyzed gels; a case study of molecules to materials

Abstract: CuAl(2)(acac)(4)(O(i)Pr)(4) was obtained by the reaction driven by the ligand rearrangement between anhydrous Cu(acac)(2) and Al(OPr(i))(3) in toluene under refluxing conditions. The single molecular nature and the stability of the precursor were evidenced by the presence of the molecular ion peak at m/z 749 in the EI mass spectrum. The FT-IR spectrum also confirmed the formation of the molecular precursor with strong bands appearing at 961, 1021, 1289, 1394, 1527 and 1594 cm(-1). Very low solubility as well a… Show more

“…The XRD patterns of the thermal decomposition of the precursors and solid-solid reactions at 900 o C in air for 3 h were observed. As reported earlier [37], from the XRD analysis it was shown that if the precursor was heated at temperatures less than 700 °C, a mixture of ZnO and ZnAl2O4 was obtained. As the temperature was increased from 600 to 700 °C, the XRD patterns of the samples were shown much sharper peaks due to forming the crystalline phases.…”

“…According to literature, only five modes can be observed (A1g + Eg + 3F2g). The band at 790 cm −1 can be assigned to A1g, at 270, 590, 710 cm −1 to F2g and 475 cm −1 to Eg [35][36][37].…”

“…The single-source (ss) molecular precursor method has been explored for synthesizing solidstate materials through both chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and sol-gel techniques. [17][18][19][20][21][22] This method offers the unique prospect of pre-forming chemical bonds, in this case Co…”
