Synthesis of an amino‐terminated hyperbranched polymer and its application in reactive dyeing on cotton as a salt‐free dyeing auxiliary

Abstract: A water-soluble amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer was synthesised from methyl acrylate and diethylene triamine by melt polycondensation. Its molecular weight and possible structure were characterised by gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The zeta potential of cotton fabrics treated with the aqueous solution of the amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer (6 g dm )3 ) in the presence of citric acid (2 g dm )3 ) and sodium h… Show more

“…This is due to the presence of large number of imino and amino groups in amino-terminated hyperbranched polymers (Zhang et al 2007). Enhanced colour strength is displayed by amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer (HBP-NH 2 )-grafted cotton fibre (HGCF) while dyeing with reactive dyes (Zhang et al 2007(Zhang et al , 2008.…”

“…Cationization of starch is achieved by treating starch with cationizing agents such as glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (Glytac A) , 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (Zhang et al 2007), 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (QUAB188) or 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (QUAB151; Kaki et al 2003). Adsorption of reactive dyes is facilitated by positive charges acquired from cationic starch.…”

“…HBP-NH 2 was synthesized by simplified condensation polymerization of AB 3 and AB 2 type monomers described by Feng Zhang et al [41]: DETA (0.5 mol) was added into a 250-mL three-neck round-bottomed flask equipped with a thermometer, a nitrogen inlet tube, and a constant-voltage dropping funnel under room temperature. Then, the solution of MA (0.5 mol) in methanol (100 mL) was added dropwise into the flask under magnetic stirring and followed by reacting for 4 h. The light yellow-transparent AB 2 and AB 3 type monomers were synthesized.…”

“…HBP-NH 2 has shown excellent adsorption to several organic polymers [41][42][43][44][45][46] and inorganic materials [47,48]. Furthermore, HBP-NH 2 also has shown enhanced metalbinding behavior [49].…”
