Synthesis, Crystal Structure, Spectroscopic and Thermal Investigations of a Novel 2D Sodium(I) Coordination Polymer Based on 2-Aminoterephthalic Ligand

Abstract: The reaction of sodium hydroxide with 2-aminoterephthalic acid leads to the formation of a complex of the general formula: [Na 2 (atpt)(H 2 O) 5 ]ÁH 2 O, where atpt = [NH 2 C 6 H 3 (COO) 2 ] 2-. Sodium 2-aminoterephthalate was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and coupled TG-FT-IR technique. Crystallographic study of the sodium complex reveals that the compound crystallizes in the triclinic system, the space group P-1 with a = 7.983(3) Å , b… Show more

“…28 Steric hindrance of the amino group most likely plays a role here, in such a way that the different synthesis conditions could lead to different amino group arrangements. 32,33 The chemical bonding scheme in our Li 2 TP-NH 2 thin films was studied with FTIR spectroscopy. A comparison of the thinfilm spectrum to that of its TPA-NH 2 precursor confirms the disappearance of the characteristic carbonyl group (only seen for the acid precursor) and the appearance of the carboxyl feature upon the metal carboxylate bond formation (ESI Fig.…”

“…From the correlations established between the compounds synthesized, it is reasonable to assume that these materials have a similar design to that shown in Fig. 3, a similar compound to the studied by Justyna Sienkiewicz-Gromiuk and co-workers [9]. Furthermore, as 2-aminoterephthalate ligand has two carboxylate groups it is versatile enough to form compounds by different ways involving chelating structures or bridge, which can be supported by FT-IR data as well as by metal/ligand (1:1) stoichiometry determined by TG-DTA analysis and classical through EDTA.…”

“…The formation of a compound involving metal ions and organic ligands allows changes in the original physical and chemical properties of a metal and a ligand. In medicine, for instance, metal compounds can act as antibiotics and represent an alternative strategy for the production of medicaments, since they can exhibit better antibacterial activity against resistant bacteria than the existing antibiotics [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9].…”
