Health hazards due to exposure of skin to solar Ultraviolet radiation are increasing very rapidly due to environmental degradation or ozone layer depletion. It may be greatly reduced by minimizing the time exposure to UV rays. UV protection by fabrics has recently become the focus of great interest. A key element in achieving the goal of reduced UVR exposure is making proper UV protective goods with good UPF protection > 40. Keeping this in mind, the current research aimed at new area of research on synthesis of UVR protective functional dyes containing benzophenone based UV absorbers and its application on wool, silk and nylon.fabrics. All the wool, silk and nylon fabrics dyed with sythesised dyes shows less than 5% UVA and UVB transmission indicating good protection against UV radiation, Dyed fabric also exhibits good to excellent washing, rubbing and light fastness properties Keywords-Mono azo acid dyes, 4-hydroxy benzophenone, 2, 4-dihydroxy benzophenone, 2 hydroxy-4 methoxy benzophenone, light fastness, UPF factor, UVA UVB blocking.
