Synthesis, characterization and fluorescence performance of a waterborne polyurethane-based fluorescent dye 4-amino-N -cyclohexyl-1,8-naphthalimide, WPU-ACN

Abstract: A waterborne-polyurethane-based fluorescent dye 4-amino-N-cyclohexyl-1,8-naphthalimide (WPU-ACN) was synthesized by attaching 4-amino-N-cyclohexyl-1,8-naphthalimide (ACN) into polyurethane chains according to a prepolymer−ionomer process. The structure of WPU-ACN was confirmed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV−visible absorption. The number-average molecular weight, glass transition temperature and average emulsion particle size for WPU-ACN were determined as 7.8 × 10 5 g mol −1 , 60 •… Show more

“…Here, we will focus on the specifics of the solution, also termed the acetone process, since the majority of PUDs discussed in this review were synthesized accordingly. Scheme illustrates the solution process for the synthesis of a fluorescent dye‐containing PUD . In the first step, tolylene‐2,4‐diisocyanate (TDI), PPG, and 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (DMPA) react to form an isocyanate end‐capped prepolymer containing a pendant carboxylic acid.…”

“…Nowadays, some carboxylated waterborne polyurethane‐based dyes have been reported . Compared with carboxylate waterborne polyurethane‐based dyes, sulfonated waterborne polyurethane‐based dyes is easier to obtain products with high solid content, and its acid–base resistance, heat resistance, and water resistance are greatly improved, with good economic value and market prospects .…”

“…The fluorescence intensities of emulsions were obviously enhanced with enlarged average particle sizes. This was attributed to enlarged average particle sizes of emulsions with the increased MMA contents, which augmented the light absorption area of the ACBD segments [31][32][33][34][35].…”
