Synthesis and fluorescence properties of a waterborne polyurethane–acrylic hybrid polymeric dye

Abstract: A waterborne polyurethane-acrylic hybrid polymeric dye was prepared depending on soap-free emulsion polymerization method. The resulting polymeric dye composed of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer which was polymerized into polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as cores and waterborne polyurethane-based dye was synthesized by anchoring dye monomers (6-amino-2-cyclohexylbenz[de]isoquinone-1,3-dione) to polyurethane chains as shells. The average particle sizes of the hybrid polymeric dye emulsions were found to be incr… Show more

“…The pencil hardness of the films of WPU-PAA-110 and WPU-PAA-80 was 3H and 2B, respectively. This was attributed to increasing the hard segment content of poly(acrylic acid) in the polymer [33]. All WPU-PAA samples exhibited excellent crosshatch adhesion, which increased from 2B to 5B with increasing the content of acrylic acid.…”

“…Afterwards, fluorescent PUs were synthesized through chemically embedding fluorescers in PU backbones. Hu’s group [ 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 ] reported a series of fluorescent PUs by incorporating the different molecular structures of fluorescers into the PU chain, and systematically investigated their fluorescent properties.…”

“…Fluorescence is caused by radiation, which ceases almost immediately after the incident radiation stops [ 60 ]. Long afterglow is long persistent luminescent phenomenon, whereby the visible luminescent emission remains visible for an appreciable time—from seconds to many hours—after the excitation has stopped [ 61 , 62 , 63 ].…”
