Synthesis, characterization and application of anionic metal complex azo dyes as potential substitutes for Cr-complex dyes

Abstract: The synthesis and characterization of Cu-, Al-, Zn-, Ni-, Mn- complexes as substitutes for the Cr- and Co-complex acid azo dyes with lower toxicity was carried out and the subsequent use of ultra-filtration was studied with the aim of purifying the metal complex dyes and thus increasing dye strength and solubility and additionally reducing the free metal present in the final dye. A drastic reduction in the content of inorganic additives and free metal was achieved by the ultra-filtration process. The ultra-fil… Show more

“…The appearance of a characteristic shoulder in the region of 550-560 nm in the absorption spectrum of the MR-Cu 2+ -H 2 SO 4 system (Fig. 9, curve 6) can be attributed to the formation of coordination compounds, in which the protonated form of MR binds the copper cations via coordinating the lone electron pairs of the nitrogen atom of the azo group and the oxygen atom of the carboxyl group [52]. Most probably, the protonated species of the azo compound has a quinone hydrazone structure (Fig.…”

“…Standard solutions for metal salts were maded in changing condensation (10-5-10-3 M/L) in pH average (4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). On the same time a bulk of ethanolic solutions for ligand during the extent for condensations (10-5-10-3 M/L) has been and produced.…”

“…Because of widely used in application, such as optical data storage, non-linear optics, dyes and pharmaceuticals, transition metal chelates appeared good thermal and chemical properties (7). Metal chelates for azo ligands are widely important type for dyeing the wool, nylon and silks into higher fastness for washing and light (8). Recently, metal chelates of azo dyes have been increased attention for electronic interesting and relationship with their using for non-linear optical elements, printing system, molecular memory storages and industrial fields (9,10).…”

“…[34] Metal complex dyes with chromium, cobalt, and copper complexes are the most commonly used dye class for dyeing wool, nylon, and silk because of their superior fastness to washing and light when compared with non-metallized acid dyes. [35] There are several chemical, physical, and biological methods for the treatment and discoloration of contaminated effluents, such as coagulation and flocculation, [36] membrane filtration, [37] chemical oxidation, [38] ion exchange, [39] biodegradation, [40] electrochemical methods, [41] and adsorption. [42] The adsorption technique is an efficient and inexpensive process for the purification of water because of its ease of operation, simple technique, high removal efficiency, regeneration, and versatility.…”
