Synthesis, Characterization and antibacterial activity of Magnesium Oxide (MgO) nanoparticles.

Abstract: Magnesium nitrate hexahydrate Mg (NO3)2.6H2O, ammonia and distilled water were used for preparation magnesium oxide (MgO) via a precipitation method, where magnesium nitrate is used as a precursor, distilled water as a solvent and ammonia is used to maintain pH of the sample. The MgO was characterized by an X-ray diffractometer microscopy and a UV-Vis spectroscopy. In this study, The average particle size has been investigated by XRD spectroscopy, which came out to be 7 nm by using Scherrer’s equation. The sam… Show more

“…87-0653), where significant peaks can be assigned close to the 2 angle values of 36.8, 42.9, 62.2, 74.6, and 78.6°, which can be indexed to the lattice planes (111), (200), (220), (311), and (222), respectively. The typical pattern is shown in Figure 3 a, whereby similar results have been widely published [ 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. The Scherrer [ 31 ] equation is most commonly used in the literature to determine the crystallite size of synthesized nanostructures from XRD results.…”

“…Nanotechnology is a rapidly expanding field which involves the synthesis and characterization of noble metals such as silver, gold, and platinum as nanoparticles. The importance of nanotechnology relies on its wide applications in drug delivery, bioengineering, textile engineering, biological labeling, biotechnology, catalysis, water treatment and the detection of genetic disorders [1][2][3][4]. Nanoparticles are of maximum size of 100 nm showing different chemical, optical, mechanical, electronic and magnetic properties than larger particles due to the variation in specific characteristics such as shape, size and atomic distribution [1,5].…”

“…22 Due to increasing antibiotic resistance in E.faecalis strains the use of alternative antibacterial agents such as metallic nanoparticles have prompted a renewed interest. 23 In the present study nano-Mgo solution is used as an endodontic irrigant. Nano-Mgo has the advantages of non-toxicity, pepared from readily avaliable resources, economical and therefore has considerable potential as a bactericidal material.…”
