Synthesis, Characterisation and Anti‐Fungal Activities of Some NewCopper(II) Complexes of Octamethyl Tetraaza‐Cyclotetradecadiene

Abstract: The ligand Me8[14]diene, L, in its free state as well as in the dihydroperchlorate form, L.2HClO4, coordinates copper(ll) in different salts to yield a series of [CuLXx] Xy(H2O)z complexes where X = NO3, ClO4, NCS, Cl and Br; x and y may have values of 0 or 2 and z = 0, 1 or 2. The complex, [CuL(ClO4)2].2H2O is found to undergo axial ligand substitution reactions with SCN-, NO3 and Cl- to give a variety of substitution derivatives: [CuL(ClO4)m Xn] where X = NCS, NO3 and Cl; m = 0 or 1, and n = 1 or 2. “…The spectra further display bands at 1440-1460 cm À1 and 1325-1345 cm À1 attributed to coordinated NO À 3 . The separation of these bands by 115 cm À1 indicates unidentate mode of coordination [9,11,17]. Though NO À 3 can also coordinate as a bidentate ligand [18], this is not possible in this case, because the macrocycle needs to be folded which is difficult due to steric hindrance of eight peripheral methyl groups present.…”

“…Hazari and coworkers [9] prepared some new four-and six-coordinate copper(II) complexes of general formula [CuL 1 X n (H 2 O) x ]X y Á (H 2 O) z , (X ¼ Cl À , Br À or NO À 3 ; n, x, y and z ¼ 0, 1 or 2). In another study, Tapashi and coworkers [10,11] prepared a six-coordinate copper(II) complex of the parent diene ligand of formula [CuL 2 (ClO 4 ) 2 ] Á 2H 2 O (L 2 ¼ Me 8 [14]diene) and its axial ligand substitution products of general formula [CuL 2 (ClO 4 ) m X n ], where X ¼ NCS À , Cl À , or NO À 3 , m ¼ 0 or 1 and n ¼ 1 or 2. 2 have been confirmed by X-ray analysis [9,12].…”

“…2HClO 4 , [23] isolation of free diene, [15] L 1 , and reduction of this diene and separation of the isomeric Me 8 [14]anes to produce L A , L B and L C were performed according to literature methods. [24,25] L 1 (0.308 g, 1.0 mmol) and palladium(II) chloride (0.354 g, 2.0 mmol)) were dissolved separately in hot methylcyanide (150 ml).…”
