Synthesis and tunable properties of oligoaniline-functionalized polyamides

Abstract: Electroactive polyamides containing dense oligoaniline functionalizations (PAs) were synthesized via oxidative coupling polymerization followed by postpolymerization functionalization, and exhibit excellent solubility, good thermal stability and reversible electroactivity. Interesting spectroscopic changes that occurred through chemical oxidation have been shown, which demonstrate the potential of PAs as an electrochromic material. As a result, the electrochromic behaviors of PAs were investigated in detail, e… Show more

“…Recently, ample research work has been conducted on the design and synthesis of electrochromic polymers bearing oligoaniline segments, as a means to impart electroactivity and electrochromism into a series of polymeric architectures . In contrary to their parent polyaniline, the resulting electrochromic polymers bearing oligoaniline segments exhibit good solubility, processability, and tunability, while retaining much of polyaniline's electrochromic capability . The interaction and/or synergistic effect among the functional groups has also been utilized to improve the key parameters of electrochromism, including switching speed, coloration efficiency, lifetime, color gamut, and so forth.…”
