Synthesis and properties of novel Schiff base oligomers based on oligo‐4‐hydroxybenzaldehyde

Abstract: Condensation of oligo‐4‐hydroxybenzaldehyde with aniline, 2‐chloroaniline, 2‐aminophenol, 2‐aminotoluene, 4‐aminotoluene, and 4‐nitroaniline gave the corresponding Schiff base oligomers (OFAP, OKAP, OHAP, OOAP, OTAP, and ONAP, respectively). The products were characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible, and elemental analyses. The number‐average molecular weight, mass‐average molecular weight, and polydispersity index (PDI) values of the Schiff base oligomers were determined. Therm… Show more

“…Absorption band observed in the FT-IR spectrum of the polymer between 750 and 900 cm −1 provides evidence for the presence of 1,2-disubstituted and 1,4-disubstituted benzene peaks. 42,43 Similar absorption bands have also been observed in FT-IR spectra of other synthesized polymers in Table 2 (see Data S1).…”

“…Spectral peaks for C=N and C-O of 8-Hydroxyquinoline showed a shift to lower frequencies indicating bonding of ligands to metal. A sharp IR band at ca3412 appeared in the Schiff base ligands (L 1 , L 2 , L 3 & L 4 ) as well as their complexes assigned to n(OH) not involved in bonding [27][28][29][30][31] . The Schiff base spectra contained strong bands in the range 1655-1610 assigned to C=N bond of the free ligand (L 1 -L 6 ) was shifted towards lower frequencies due to the lower C=N bond order and the formation of metal nitrogen bond in the metal complexes.…”

“…Methoxy and CH=N groups stretching vibrations appear between 3000 and 2800 cm -1 . The strong or medium bands between 3428 and 3325 cm -1 at the Schiff bases that not including hydrogen bonding can be assigned to ν(OH) [52,[55][56][57][58].…”
