Synthesis and properties of cross-linkable block copolymer end-capped with 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4-hexafluorobutyl methacrylate

Abstract: A series of novel cross-linkable copolymers 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4-hexafluorobutyl methacrylate-poly (isobutyl methacrylate)-b-poly [3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate] (HFMA-PIBMA-b-PTMSPMA) were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The synthesis and structure of the polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier transform infrartd (FTIR) and 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The properties of HFMA-PIBMA-b-PTMSPMA and the corresponding copolymers end-capp… Show more

“…This morphology has been coined hollow spheres, dimple-like aggregates, dimpled beads, cup-like aggregates, and bowl-shaped particles. ,, We avoid introducing yet another name and use the term bowl-shaped particles. These aggregates have been indicated as (large compound) micelle or vesicle. , Because of the peculiar hole makes that the structure is easily mistaken for a (collapsed) vesicle. When only scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is used without transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the two morphologies cannot be distinguished …”

“…Although this morphology is as specific as a double membrane layer, it is found in connection with a very wide range of molecules: amphiphiles, ,, pseudo-amphiphiles, hydrophobic molecules, , block copolymers, , ,,,, and many others structures. ,, Yet the fundamental principle behind the formation of these bowl-shaped aggregates, the method of solvent mixing, and the understanding of the morphology have, to our knowledge, not yet been elucidated.…”

“…The unique characteristics of fluoropolymers such as oleo‐ and hydrophobicity, excellent thermal and chemical properties, photochemical stability, and low surface energy have attracted great attention in coating technology . The incorporation of fluorine atoms can lower the surface energy and enhance the hydrophobicity of waterborne UV‐curable polyurethane.…”

“…In contrast with the copolymerization method, blending is a much more economical but effective method. Considering that the efficiency of fluorine could be maximized by anchoring the fluorinated group at the end of the molecular chain, especially using fluoropolymer with long tail‐like fluorinated segments.…”
