A novel mono‐methacryloyloxy terminated fluorinated macromonomer used for the modification of UV curable acrylic copolymers

Abstract: A novel macromonomer containing fluorinated units (PHFBMA-GMA) was synthesized through a two-step procedure: firstly, hexafluoro-butyl methacrylate (HFBMA) was polymerized in the presence of functional chain transfer agent 3mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) and then the carboxyl acid group terminated polymer was end-capped with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). Chemical structures of PHFBMA-GMA were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and 1 H nuclear magnetic r… Show more

“…Polyacrylate waterborne coatings are one of the main varieties of wood coatings with many advantages, such as exhibiting strong adhesion, forming colorless coatings, exhibiting high transparency, and possessing high solid contents. However, further applications of acrylate waterborne coatings are limited by their low hardness values and poor mechanical properties [3][4][5].…”

“…In this regard, the potency of uoropolymers and silicon elastomers, which have been considered as the most promising candidates, have been explained in terms of their low surface energy and interesting mechanical properties. [6][7][8] Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) elastomers, as the most important nontoxic anti-biofouling coating materials, have been widely used in commercial applications owing to their low modulus and low surface energy. 9 However, the antifouling efficacy of PDMS marine coatings is not as good as toxic paints, and regular mechanical cleaning (scrubbing) of the coated surface is also required, which increases the operational expense.…”
