Synthesis and high electrocatalytic performance of hexagram shaped gold particles having an open surface structure with kinks

Abstract: Hexagram shaped gold particles and their analogues enclosed by high index facets with kinks have been successfully synthesized by reducing HAuCl(4) with ascorbic acid (AA) in the presence of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) at room temperature. By using electron microscopy, the surfaces of the hexagram shaped Au particle were found to be {541} planes, which contain high-density steps and kinks. In addition, it was found that hexagonal shield-like and other kind of particles present in the product were an… Show more

“…The oxidation peak at 1.34 V is quite strong and sharp, while the one at 1.24 V is relatively too weak to distinguish. The gold characteristic peaks are consistent with the previous reports [40][41][42]. It is also confirmed the products are high purity.…”

“…In the first On the other hand, for shape-controlled Au nanoparticles, it has been stated that the electrochemical deposition of a film of PbO 2 in alkaline solution [51,52] is very effective in order to remove different capping agents, including polyethylene glycol dodecyl ether (Brij ® 30), CTAB and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA)). Interestingly, the NaOH cleaning was shown also effective to get clean cubic and octahedral Au nanoparticles prepared with CTAB [53,54] which were used to electrochemically oxidise different organic molecules such as methanol, ethanol, formaldehyde and glycerol.…”

“…Recently, the synthesis of many high-index faceted Au nanocrystals has been achieved by wet chemistry. [13][14][15][16] The wet-chemical synthesis of highindex catalytic facets was also achieved by epitaxial growth Pd and Pt on pre-made high-index Au facets [56,[58][59][60][61] or by making AuPt alloy. [94] Although pure Pd and Pt concave nanocubes with high-index facets were fabricated, [95][96][97] their formation mechanisms are still unclear.…”

“…Many of the obtained Au nanocrystals are even bound by high-index facets. [13][14][15][16] High-index facets are highly open surfaces and promising for catalysis applications. However, the surface-dependent catalysis performances of Ag and Au nanocrystals were less explored.…”
