Synthesis and Characterization of Ricinoleamide‐Based Polyurethane

Abstract: Ricinus communis (RC) oil-based materials are currently receiving increasing attention because of economic and environmental concerns. In the present work, RC oil-a natural triol has been utilized for the development of an advanced polymeric material-poly(urethanericinoleamide) (PUR) through very simple synthesis and curing strategy, omitting derivatization steps or side reactions, chain extenders and crosslinkers. The synthesis of PUR was carried out in two steps. The first step is the introduction of an amid… Show more

“…Vegetable oil-based polyurethanes, which are mostly synthesized by reacting vegetable oil polyols with diisocyanates, have received significant interest as one group of important bioproducts [6][7][8]. Vegetable oil double bonds are usually utilized to generate hydroxyls to form polyols [9,10]. Since several double bonds are present in vegetable oils, the functionality of vegetable oil polyols (the average number of hydroxyls per molecule) is usually higher than two [8,11].…”

“…In comparison, the content of dangling chain has a little impact on the thermal stability of the obtained PUs. We can see from Fig.3, the polyurethane prepared all has 3 thermal decomposition stage, respectively for the decomposition of carbamate bond [12,13] , soft segment decomposition and decomposition of ester bond [7] . Fig.4.…”

“…The peak at 4.36 ppm was attributed to CH 2 attached to urethane oxygen (CH 2 OCONH‐Ar) and peak at 2.4 ppm can be owed to CH 3 of TDI. [ 29 ] The peak at 4.0 ppm was related to the CH 2 attached to Si (5, CH 2 ─O─Si─O).…”
