Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Polyurethanes Based on Tall Oil

Abstract: Amide and ester type polyols were synthesized from different kinds of tall oil and two types of ethanolamine (diethanolamine and triethanolamine). Poly(urethane amides) and polyester urethanes based on the synthesized polyols were prepared. The influence of the chemical structure of the obtained polyurethanes on density, glass transition temperature, thermal stability, mechanical properties and adhesive strength was investigated. The effect of the content of rosin acids in original tall oil on the specified ch… Show more

“…These peaks correspond to the asymmetric and the symmetric stretching vibration for CH (CH 2 and CH 3 ) . The highest absorbance in the spectra was produced between 1750 and 1735 cm −1 , which was characteristic of the CO stretching . These peaks were more pronounced in the tall oil‐treated paper‐sheets than in the hydrowax‐treated one.…”

“…Toluene (up to 50 %) was added to the premixed polyol with intumescent additives. For the thermal and mechanical test, polyurethane coatings were prepared in the form of free films [24]. For the flammability test, polyurethane coatings, 250 µm -300 µm in thickness, were applied on (100×100×16) mm standard wood (pine) samples.…”

“…The effects of the melamine phosphate content and the weight proportions in its combination with other FRs on the main parameters of the thermal stability and flammability of polyurethane coating were studied. The mentioned parameters of the new coatings were compared to the parameters of similar polyurethane [12], were used as a polyol.…”
