Synthesis and characterization of novel simultaneous C and O-coordinated and nitrate-bridged complexes of silver(i) with carbonyl-stabilized sulfonium ylides and their antibacterial activities

Abstract: Reaction of sulfonium ylides (Me)(2)SCHC(O)C(6)H(4)R (R = H; m-NO(2); p-NO(2); p-OMe; p-Me and p-Br) with AgNO(3) in dichloromethane leads to various compounds. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the adducts take 3 forms: (i) two-dimensional polymer, [AgNO(3)(Me(2)SCHC(O)C(6)H(5))](n) (1), with nitrate bridges in which each nitrate coordinates to three silver atoms through two oxygen atoms and two Me(2)SCHC(O)C(6)H(5) ligands coordinate to silver centers through carbon atoms; (ii) cationic … Show more

“…The complexation of sulfur ylides to various transition metals has been extensively studied [9,[11][12][13], however the synthesis, X-ray characterization, theoretical study and also application of a palladium complex of a sulfur ylide as a precursor in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction are the key advantages of this study. This paper includes the synthesis, spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic characterization, theoretical study and application of new palladium(II) complex of an α-keto stabilized sulfur ylide in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction.…”

“…42) Briefly, the bacterial cells (10 5 CFU/mL) were added into 100 µL of the compounds dilutions in MullerHinton broth, and then incubated at 37°C for 24 h. The microbial growth was examined by visual inspection. In this assay, all compounds were dissolved in DMSO.…”

“…Pa was incubated in the presence of the Ag(I) complex 2h at 0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 times respective MIC (MIC=0.7 µM) and the number of surviving bacteria were determined by colony counting. The data are judged relative to the conventional definition of bactericidal activity, that is, a 3 log 10 CFU/mL or greater reduction in the initial inoculum by 24 h. 42,46) In growth curve studies (Fig. 3B), no influence was observed on the growth of Pa in liquid medium supplemented with up to 2 times the MIC of 2h.…”
