This article reported the adsorption of Pb(II) ions using silica extracted from the natural sand of Takari, Timor island, Nusa Tenggara Timur province. The silica was extracted using hydrothermal and coprecipitation methods. The extracted silica was then used for Pb(II) adsorption under several optimization conditions: pH, contact time, concentration, kinetic model, and adsorption isotherm. The determination of Pb(II) concentration used dithizone reagent, forming complexes, and then measured using Uv-Vis. The pH, contact time, and optimum concentration results were 7, 60 minutes, and 80 mg/L, respectively, with an adsorption capacity (qe) of 0.679 mg/g, 0.745 mg/g, and 18.096 mg/g. The kinetic model followed a pseudo-order-2 with R2 = 0.93, and the adsorption isotherm of Pb(II) metal ions followed the Temkin isotherm model. The results showed that the silica extracted from the natural sand of Takari of Timor island-Nusa Tenggara Timur could adsorb Pb(II) metal ions

Preparation of CuO/SiO2catalyst has been done via sol-gel method using copper nitrate solution and TEOS as precursors. Several instruments such as FT-IR, SEM, EDAX, XRD and particle sizer were employed to characterize the obtained material. Then, CuO/SiO2 catalyst was successfullyusedin the synthesis of three curcumin derivatives, 4,4'-((1E,1'E)-(1H-pyrazole-3,5-diyl)bis(ethene-2,1-diyl))bis(2-methoxyphenol) (Compound 1), 4,4'-((1E,1'E)-(1phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3,5-diyl)bis(ethene-2,1-diyl))bis(2-methoxyphenol) (Compound 2) and 4,4'-((1E,1'E)-(isoxazole-3,5-diylbis(ethene-2,1-diyl))bis(2-methoxyphenol) (Compound 3) with good yields.

Chitosan-silica prepared by sol-gel method was used for adsorption of M(II) (M = Mn 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ ) in solution at room temperature. The prepared chitosan-silica was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Effect of pH of the metal solution and adsorption contact time toward the adsorption capacity were investigated. The correlation between M(II) concentrations and the adsorption capacity, which was determined at optimum pH and optimum adsorption contact time, is also discussed. FTIR and SEM results are identical to that of chitosan-silica reported previously. Chitosan-silica performs the highest adsorption capacity for Cu 2+ , Mn 2+ , and Zn 2+ , successively. The optimum pH for Mn 2+ , Cu 2+ and Zn 2+ adsorptions were obtained at pH 5. It is suggested that due to the combination of ionic size and HSAB concept, Cu 2+ gives the highest adsorption capacity than that of Mn 2+ and Zn 2+ . The optimum contact time for Mn 2+ and Cu 2+ adsorption was obtained at 75 minutes with adsorption capacities of 6.56 ± 0.04 mg/g and 15.46 ± 0.02 mg/g, respectively, whereas Zn 2+ adsorption was obtained at 60 minutes with an adsorption capacity of 5.01 ± 0.12 mg/g.
