Synthesis and characterization of Ce3+-doped flowerlike ZnS nanorods

Abstract: Cerium-doped zinc sulfide nanorods with flower-shaped morphology have been successfully synthesized in air atmosphere through simple chemical precipitation method. The incorporation of Ce 3? was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive spectrum. The doping of Ce 3? ions has significant influence on the optical properties of the synthesized rods. UVVis absorption spectroscopy measurements have shown that the absorption peak of doped ZnS was red shifted compared to undoped ZnS. Photoluminescence meas… Show more

“…In the IR spectra of the same ZnS layers but deposited on porous AAO substrates (Figure 5b,c), distinct absorption peaks are visible, which enable chemical and structural analysis of the layers. A broad vibration centered at ~3450-3650 cm −1 , present both in Figure 5b,c, is due to the stretching vibrations of O-H bond (v(OH)) of adsorbed water [29][30][31][32][33]. The vibration confirms the presence of moisture on the surface of ZnS thin films.…”

“…Apart from the bands that can be associated with PDT chemical groups, in the IR spectra there are dips that originate from other functional groups. For instance, a weak band at 2361 cm −1 can be attributed to the C=O stretching mode (v3(CO2)) of absorbed CO2 [32,36,40]. The bands at 1559 and 1586 cm −1 were previously associated with C=O stretching vibrations of the absorbed CO2 as well [29,41,42], but could also come from the products of the DEZ and PDT surface reaction.…”

“…For example, Wang and colleagues reported that Ce‐YVO 4 crystals could be used in white light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) . With the development of nanoscience and technology, Ce‐doped nanoparticles have been synthesized using different methods such as sol–gel, hydrothermal, chemical precipitation, electrochemistry, templates, photo‐induced conversion, and biological synthesis techniques . However reports on the synthesis of Ce‐doped YVO 4 nanoparticles are limited.…”

“…They doped with different metal ions produce new door for optical studies and potential applications in optical device fabrication. Among the semiconductors, ZnS is a well known II-VI group semiconductor with a energy band gap of 3.6 eV and is widely used as a phosphor and in luminescent device [1][2][3][4][5].…”

“…Transition metal ions doped ZnS nanoparticles have received much attention due to their exceptional luminescent properties. During the past decades, luminescent properties have been extensively investigated on Mn doped ZnS [1], Cu doped ZnS [2], Ag doped ZnS [3], Ce doped ZnS [4] and Pb doped ZnS nanoparticles [5]. Large third-order optical nonlinearity can be expected from ZnS nanoparticles due to its exceptional luminescent properties.…”
