“…The present work aimed to prepare novel hybrid silica nanoparticles linked with imidazolium ILs to control their sizes, shapes, surface charges, and thermal and chemical stability. In a previous report imidazolium ILs were prepared by condensation of alkyl amines with GA and PHB under acetic acid conditions [32]. In this respect, APTS was selected as a silane precursor to condense with PHB and GA under acetic acid conditions to produce SIMIL as represented in Scheme 1.…”

“…Ammonia was selected to hydrolyze SIMIL due to it increasing its solubility as an aprotic IL under alkaline conditions more than acidic conditions [34]. The presence of hydroxyl groups on the surface of magnetite [32] facilitates its linking with silica colloids during the hydrolysis of SIMIL under basic conditions. Nanomaterials 2020, 10, x FOR PEER REVIEW 4 of 19 CR was calculated as the ratio of the desorption capacity (qde) and adsorption capacity (qe).…”

“…Environmental research developments, particularly green technology, have proven to be an environmentally safe alternative for the remediation of polluted areas. Recently, magnetic nanomaterials based on magnetite have been attracting great attention due to their application as an oil-spill collector, with characteristics such as strong magnetic properties, low toxicity, and excellent biocompatibility [3][4][5][6][7]. Magnetic nanomaterials based on magnetite should be capped with hydrophobic polymers or surfactants to easily disperse in crude oil contaminants without dispersing in water.…”
