Syntheses, Structures, and Catalytic Properties of Two 2D Manganese(II) Coordination Polymers Containing Flexible Bis(benzimidazole) Ligands

Abstract: Two Mn II coordination polymers based on the flexible bis(benzimidazole) and dicarboxylic acids, namely, [Mn(L1)(bpdc)(H 2 O) 0.5 ] n (1) and [Mn(L2)(Htbi) 2 ] n (2) [L1 = 1,4bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, H 2 bpdc = 4,4Ј-biphenyldicarboxylic acid, L2 = 1,4-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole)butane, H 2 tbi = 5-tert-butyl isophthalic acid] were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both of the complexes cry… Show more

“…Coordination polymers (CPs) are a special class of coordination solids , that are attractive owing to a range of applications including gas storage and separation, , magnetism, sensing, , optoelectronics, , and catalysis. , The ability to tailor and tune target specific structures makes them an ideal platform for synthesis–structure–property correlation. Crystallization or crystal synthesis of a CP from a solution containing a metal ion and multidentate organic ligand remains a formidable challenge and is difficult to predict. , However, it is possible to ascertain the crystallization phase diagram, provided one could rationalize crystal packing in terms of chemically reasonable building block(s), i.e., soluble metal complex(es) and other competing species in solution. In this context, a high-throughput method facilitates an effective way to screen the outcome of crystallization.…”
