Syntheses, crystal structures and photocatalytic properties of four hybrid iodoargentates with zero- and two-dimensional structures

Abstract: Four new hybrid iodoargentates have been solvothermally prepared and structurally characterized. The title compounds possess semiconductor characterizations and efficient photocatalytic activities under visible light irradiation.

“…Fe 3+ ions are solvated with six DMSO molecules, forming [Fe(DMSO) 6 ] 3+ cations to act as counterions for the anionic iodometallate chains. As far as we know, iodoargentates directed by solvated Fe III cations have never been reported, in spite of some published works on iodoargentates templated by [Fe(2,2′‐bipy) 3 ] 3+ or [Fe(1,10‐phen) 3 ] 3+ complex . As shown in Figure d, the neighboring [Ag 6 I 9 ] 3− polyanion chains are stacked together and shape the infinite channels, wherein [Fe(DMSO) 6 ] 3+ cations occupy the void of structure.…”

“…Metal halide complexes, or halometalates, represent the class of coordination compounds which, apart from fundamental interest (in particular, related to structural chemistry), attracts attention due to numerous areas of materials science where they can be applied. Those include design of ferroelectric and ferroelastic materials [1][2][3][4][5], photocatalysis [6][7][8], luminescence [9][10][11][12][13][14][15], photochromism [16,17], etc. However, the most prominent area is photovoltaics.…”
