Supramolecular Diiodine-Bromostannate(IV) Complexes: Narrow Bandgap Semiconductors

Abstract: Three supramolecular bromostannates(IV) with “trapped” diiodine molecules, Cat2{[SnBr6](I2)} (Cat = Me4N+ (1), 1-MePy+ (2) and 4-MePyH (3)), were synthesized. In all cases, I2 linkers are connected with bromide ligands via halogen···halogen non-covalent interactions. Articles 1–3 were studied using Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The latter indicates that 1–3 are narrow band gap semiconductors.

“…MoO 2 nanoparticles may be susceptible to partial oxidation of interfacial Mo(IV) sites, [95][96][97] and small variations in the molybdenum valence may affect the physical properties. 83 Accordingly, differences in redox properties and coordination features of Ta and Nb sites (discussed in the literature for different coordination compounds of these metals 94,98 ) may have implications on the stability of immobilized MoO 2 .…”

“…Increasing clusters nuclearity in molecular chemistry is always a challenge. Lately, coordination modes behavior of niobium and tantalum was studied using catecholate ligands [48] . To date, the largest poly‐oxo cluster in niobium carboxylate chemistry has been identified from a solvothermal reaction of niobium ethoxide with pivalic acid in acetonitrile.…”

“…Lately, coordination modes behavior of niobium and tantalum was studied using catecholate ligands. [48] To date, the largest poly-oxo cluster in niobium carboxylate chemistry has been identified from a solvothermal reaction of niobium ethoxide with pivalic acid in acetonitrile. It led to the formation of an hexadecaniobate cluster [Nb16O28(OEt)12(piv)12].…”
