“…The P(1) atom forms two P}O}Zn bonds via oxygen bridges and has two uncoordinated oxygen atoms: O(5), a terminal }OH group with bond length d[P(1)}O (5) those of PO . Similar P}OH bond lengths are also reported in other layered zinc phosphates (5,23,27).…”

“…The chains are built up from polyhedral 4rings with the zinc centres serving to fuse the 4-rings into chains, which results in the 1:2 Zn:P ratio. Similar zincophosphate 4-ring chains have been seen in RbZn(HPO 4 )(H 2-PO 4 )ÁH 2 O (Harrison et al, 1997) and N 2 C 6 H 14 ÁZn-(HPO 4 ) 2 ÁH 2 O (Chavez et al, 1999). In (NH 4 )Zn(HPO 4 )-(H 2 PO 4 ), four O atoms serve as ZnÐOÐP links ( av = 128.5 ) and four are terminal to P. Assuming the presence of ammonium cations rather than unprecendented neutral ammonia, three H atoms are required for charge balancing.…”
