Abstract: Racemic 4a-methyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4aH-carbazole (1) is resolved into the antipodes and the levorotatory enantiomer 3 is converted into the optically active methiodide 5 from which the associated alkylidene indoline base 6 can be prepared. The 0.r.d. curves are recorded for solutions of these substances in various solvents.
