Synergistic effects between iron-graphene and ammonium polyphosphate in flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane

Abstract: This article mainly studies synergistic flame-retardant effects of iron-graphene (IG) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). A high concentration of TPU/IG masterbatch was prepared by solution-blending method, and the TPU/APP/IG composites were prepared by melt-blending method. Then, the synergistic effects between iron-graphene and ammonium polyphosphate in flame-retardant TPU were investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimeter test, and thermogravimetric/Fourier … Show more

“…In order to increase above-mentioned parameters of polyurethanes, different strategies can be applied. Thermal stability and flame retardancy of PU composites can be improved by incorporation of specific comonomers into the polymer backbone or by blending with fillers of different nature (silsesquioxanes, borax, graphite, carbon fillers, silicates, metals, graphene, phosphates, and many others) [42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49].…”

“…It could be seen that there were new diffraction peaks appearing at about 10, 13 and 23° for APP@ETA, indicating the existence of amorphous structure in APP@ETA, whereas no peak was found in APP. The results implied that using ETA to chemically modify APP could affect the crystalline structure of APP . And, the new diffraction peaks should be attributed to the APP@ETA formed .…”

“…(a), peaks in the regions around 636–700 cm −1 , around 2300–2500 cm −1 , around 1610–1674 cm −1 , around 3000–4000 cm −1 , around 920–984 cm −1 and around 650–700 cm −1 were noted. The spectra fit well to the reported FTIR features of gas products such as H 2 O (3400–4000 cm −1 ) and CO 2 (2300–2400 cm −1 ) . The frequency ranges of CO 2 absorption peaks were 636–700 cm −1 and 2300–2500 cm −1 .…”
