Synergistic effect of GO/SrFe12O19 as magnetic hybrid nanocatalyst for regioselective ring-opening of epoxides with amines under eco-friendly conditions

Abstract: Highly efficient magnetically separable hybrid GO/SrFe12O19 nanocomposite was synthesized, as catalyst for epoxide ring-opening, via dispersing M-type strontium hexaferrite (SrFe12O19) on graphene oxide (GO) sheets.

“…Earlier, numerous methodologies have been reported which utilized metal in varied forms like metal salts, metal halides, metal alkoxides, metal triflates, and metal amines. [23] In last 2 decades a good number of reports are available for the ring opening of oxirane using heterogeneous catalyst namely heteropolyacid, [24] zeolites [25] MCH, [26] amberlyst, [27] CaFe 2 O 4 [28] and magnetically separable hybrid GO/SrFe 12 O 19 [29] nanocomposites. The classical methodology involving treatments of epoxides with excess of amines at elevated temperature [30] have proven, totally unfavorable for molecules having thermal sensitive functionalities.…”

“…Catalytic systems are intrinsically important contributors to the ongoing innovation of technology leading to durable and beneficial industrial applications. 19,[31][32][33] Homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, including H 2 SO 4 , HCl, KOH, NaOH, zeolite, aluminum and silica oxides, metal-based catalysts, as well as polymerbased catalysts, are commonly used to synthesize a wide range of products in many research and industrial areas. However, solid catalysts are mostly preferred due to their ease of separation from the reaction products, but also for their merit of reusability over many cycles, giving them high economic performance compared with their homogeneous counterparts.…”
