Synergistic Antibacterial Activity of the Essential Oil of Aguaribay (Schinus molle L.)

Abstract: Schinus molle L. (aguaribay, aroeira-falsa, “molle”, family Anacardiaceae), a native of South America, produces an active antibacterial essential oil extracted from the leaves and fruits. This work reports a complete study of its chemical composition and determines the antibacterial activity of Schinus molle L. essential oil and its main components. The results showed that the crude extract essential oil has a potent antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, a strong/moderate effect on Escheric… Show more

“…Sharma et al evaluated the potential antibacterial and antibiofilm capacity of bioactive compounds extracted from onions at different stages of age on gram-negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus [4]. Several studies have shown the antibacterial activity of extracts from plants such as essential oils [5][6][7][8][9]. Industrial hemp was used to obtain essential oil rich in terpenic compounds and this oil was tested against pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms to evaluate the antimicrobial activity [10].…”
