The inhibition effect of tween-85 on the corrosion of cold rolled steel (CRS) in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) was studied by weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization methods. The results show that tween-85 is a good inhibitor in 1.0 M HCl and its maximum inhibition efficiency (IE) is 92% at very low concentration. Its adsorption obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption enthalpy (DH 0 ), adsorption free energy (DG 0 ) and adsorption entropy (DS 0 ) were calculated and discussed. Polarization curves show that tween-85 acts as a mixed-type inhibitor in hydrochloric acid. IE values obtained from weight loss and polarization are consistent. The adsorbed film on a CRS surface containing an optimum dose of tween-85 was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). An inhibitive mechanism is proposed from the viewpoint of adsorption theory.

In this study, the effect of the addition of Nd 3+ ions as a corrosion inhibitor of the API X70 steel in a medium rich in chlorides was evaluated. e performance of the Nd 3+ ions was evaluated by means of electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization curves, open circuit potential measurements, linear polarization resistance, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, as well as by means of scanning electron microscopy and EDS measurements. e results showed that Nd 3+ ions reduce the corrosion rate of steel at concentrations as low as 0.001 M Nd 3+ . At higher concentrations, the inhibition efficiency was only slightly affected although the concentration of chloride ions was increased by the addition of the inhibitor. e adsorption of the Nd 3+ ions promotes the formation of a protective layer of oxides/hydroxides on the metal surface, thereby reducing the exchange rate of electrons. Nd 3+ ions act as a mixed inhibitor with a strong predominant cathodic effect.

The extract (E) and oil of Melissa Officinalis leaves (EO) have been evaluated as a corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solution by means of weight loss measurements, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Tafel polarization study revealed that extract (E) and oil of Melissa Officinalis (EO) act as a mixed type inhibitors. The Nyquist plots showed that with increasing the inhibitors concentrations, the charge-transfer resistance increased and the double-layer capacitance decreased, involving increased inhibition efficiency. The inhibition was found to increase with increasing the concentration of the extract (E) and oil of Melissa Officinalis (EO). The values of inhibition efficiency calculated from weight loss, Tafel polarization curves, and EIS were in good agreement. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behaviour of mild steel in 1.0 M HCl with addition of both extract (E) and oil of Melissa Officinalis (EO) was also studied and thermodynamic parameters were determined and discussed.
