“…Immediately after mixing, the suspensions were continuously pumped via a peristaltic pump through a capillary in line with the synchrotron beam. Simultaneous 2D SAXS (collected with a RAPID detector) and 1D WAXS (collected with a HOTWAXS detector) patterns (λ = 1Å) were collected at one second time frames for the total reaction duration of ∼35 min. SAXS patterns were only collected for the pure ACC and SO 4(repl) experiments.…”

“…The crystallization of pure ACC (without additive) was performed both offline and online, using the same method and experimental setup, by rapidly mixing equal volumes of molar solutions of calcium chloride (1 M, CaCl 2 •2H 2 O, >99% purity) and sodium carbonate (1 M, Na 2 CO 3 , >99% purity). These pure ACC experiments were complemented with sets of experiments performed with either 10 mol % of the Na 2 CO 3 replaced by Na 2 SO 4 (SO 4(repl) experiments) as sulfate is thought to replace carbonate in some calcium carbonate phases 18 and with 10 mol % Na 2 SO 4 added to the Na 2 CO 3 solution (SO 4(add) experiments) to determine the effects of sulfate as a true additive. During mixing and throughout the whole experimental time, the suspensions were vigorously stirred to ensure rapid and continual homogenization.…”

“…In practice, this means that there is a premium for the detector to have adequate angular resolution, a requirement that is met by CCD systems. The emerging forms of hybrid pixel detectors offer enormous potential in this application but so far only offer a pixel size that is too large for most applications [391]. The emerging X-ray free electron laser sources are driving a considerable amount of effort in this direction and small X-ray active pixel sensors are now beginning to emerge [392].…”

“…The MYTHEN detector system has been replaced with an upgraded version which now covers 120 and has been in operation since summer 2007 (Bergamaschi et al, 2009). Large MYTHEN detector systems and single modules have also been delivered by the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) to other synchrotron facilities (Marchal et al, 2009;Haverkamp & Wallwork, 2009). The detector is now marketed by the DECTRIS spin-off company (http://www.dectris.com/).…”
